Clinical Profile

Dr Nikhil Joshi is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Bristol Heart Institute and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol. He is recognised as one of the highest-volume TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation) operators in the UK, having performed over 2,000 implants. His clinical practice is defined by extensive experience in complex coronary angioplasty and structural heart interventions.

Dr Joshi undertook comprehensive cardiology training in Edinburgh, where he was awarded a Clinical PhD. He subsequently completed a highly competitive British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) Fellowship in Vancouver Island, Canada, mastering advanced interventional techniques. A leader in his field, Dr Joshi previously served as the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) Cardiovascular Research Lead for the West of England. He acts as a proctor for multiple heart valve technologies, training other consultants in the UK, Australia, India, and Latin America.

Dr Joshi was invited to Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Research. He is a recipient of the prestigious Medical Research Council (MRC) Clinical Academic Partnership Award and the BMA Josephine Lansdell Award. He has been a finalist for Young Investigator Awards at the world’s leading cardiac societies, including the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and TCT (USA). His research on heart disease prediction and AI is widely published in top-tier journals such as The Lancet and JAMA.
